Code of Ethics

As a member of the Fraternal League of Ordinary Golfers, I do, solemnly and with no reservation, agree to abide by this Code of Ethics.

While engaged in League activity, to behave in a manner respectful of others and befitting an ambassador of the great game of Golf,

While engaged in League activity, to refrain from swearing, cursing and other venomous language, excepting that which is technically necessary to describe a particularly bad shot or lie,

While engaged in League activity, to apply myself diligently to compliance with most or at least some of the rules of Golf, generally referred to as Winter rules, which include but are not limited to the following:
  • Not cheating on my score unless it gets up in the high teens on a given hole.
  • Not improving my lie anymore than necessary to prevent having a really crummy shot.
  • Not stepping on, burying, hiding under leaves, or throwing in the lake, my opponent's ball, unless he or she is doing really well and needs to be taken down a notch or two.
While engaged in League activity, to engage in no offensive behavior, with the possible exception of the smoking of cheap cigars, the public consumption in moderation of refreshing carbonated and/or alcoholic beverages, the eating of unusual food-stuffs such as ordinarily found at golf club snack bars and possibly nowhere else on the planet, the occasional scratching when and where it itches, and the infrequent relief of excessive internal gas pressure.

While engaged in League activity, to treat my fellow Fraternal League members with dignity and respect, or at least as much as I can muster after their last shot, to provide no more verbal abuse than is necessary for good humor, to receive as good as I give, and to make no sport of my fellow League members skill or lack thereof, or at least no more than I would tolerate for myself.

To at all times, on or off the course, behave in a manner reflecting my high calling and association as a member of the Fraternal League of Ordinary Golfers, to bring no disrespect to myself or other Fraternal League members, including not mentioning in the presence of significant others the on-course behavior of fellow Fraternal League members, especially regarding the smoking of cigars and consumption in moderation of alcoholic beverages, or use of technical language in the description of unusual shots or bad lies, to always diligently endeavor to refer to John Moline as 'Grand Poo-bah', and by my actions and behavior, encourage others to enjoy participation in the great game of Golf.

To these things, I solemnly agree.
