August 25th - Pebblewood
25/08/08 14:34 Filed in: Schedule
Monday the 25th of August, we will be teeing off at
6:00 p.m. at Pebblewood in Bridgman.
If you felt like you missed something last week by not being at Brookwood - rest easy. It didn’t go so well for any of us, but we had a great time. When we realized we wouldn’t finish before sundown, we switched to best-ball, and still barely made par. Yikes! But everyone reported a good time, so it was worth the trip.
Tee times are 6:00 and 6:08 in the name of Moline.
I will not be there - Park Board meeting, but don’t let that stop you.

August 18th - Brookwood

Today, Monday the 18th of August, we will be teeing
off at 6:00 p.m.at Brookwood in Buchanan.
John and I couldn't make last week - too busy getting the cabin in Baldwin ready for snowmobiling, but heard from those there that it went well.
One of our esteemed participants who will remain unidentified other than to say he can drive 350 yards on a bad day and has to stoop down to get clubs out of his bag, shared that he showed up as number nine in the foursome, and rather than split up the established cart pairs, he nobly sacrificed himself and opted not to play, in an outstanding demonstration of character, humility, and self-sacrifice.
However, as character, humility, and noble self sacrifice are not words and phrases often heard in the same sentence with the words fraternal league of ordinary golfers, I'd recommend in the future, that if any of you find yourself in this situation, you do what any respectable golfer worthy of his calling to the FLOGers would do, and that is to glom onto one of the groups and make a five-some.
We are usually the last ones off, starting so late, so with no one behind you, it shouldn't be a problem. If someone comes up, let them play through. Some courses even encourage this, notably Michigan City North, as it gets them out of there a little earlier if you're the last foursome. And if you are worried about course rules prohibiting five-somes, well, we could hardly be called the Fraternal League of Ordinary Golfers without bending a few rules. Just shout "Winter Rules!" and be off.
Tee times at 6:00 p.m. in the name of Williamson.
See you there.

August 11th - Pebblewood

Monday the 11th of August, we will be teeing off at
6:15 p.m.at Pebblewood in Bridgman.
For those of you that missed last week, we played the Michigan City North Course front nine, which was beautiful, and had a terrific time right up until the head of my driver came unglued on the number three tee and was last seen going across the South Shore Line railroad tracks headed north and up. Even a concerted effort with a metal detector on Wednesday was not successful in recovering it.
That means that my 1 wood is now the safest club in my bag, at least until I get it replaced. Oh well.
Tee times are 6:15 and 6:23 in the name of Williamson.
John and I may not be there - working in the cabin all week end, so don't wait for us - but we are trying and expect to be there unless things go wrong.
