August 18th - Brookwood

Today, Monday the 18th of August, we will be teeing off at 6:00 p.m.at Brookwood in Buchanan.

John and I couldn't make last week - too busy getting the cabin in Baldwin ready for snowmobiling, but heard from those there that it went well.

One of our esteemed participants who will remain unidentified other than to say he can drive 350 yards on a bad day and has to stoop down to get clubs out of his bag, shared that he showed up as number nine in the foursome, and rather than split up the established cart pairs, he nobly sacrificed himself and opted not to play, in an outstanding demonstration of character, humility, and self-sacrifice.

However, as character, humility, and noble self sacrifice are not words and phrases often heard in the same sentence with the words fraternal league of ordinary golfers, I'd recommend in the future, that if any of you find yourself in this situation, you do what any respectable golfer worthy of his calling to the FLOGers would do, and that is to glom onto one of the groups and make a five-some.

We are usually the last ones off, starting so late, so with no one behind you, it shouldn't be a problem. If someone comes up, let them play through. Some courses even encourage this, notably Michigan City North, as it gets them out of there a little earlier if you're the last foursome. And if you are worried about course rules prohibiting five-somes, well, we could hardly be called the Fraternal League of Ordinary Golfers without bending a few rules. Just shout "Winter Rules!" and be off.

Tee times at 6:00 p.m. in the name of Williamson.

See you there.

July 7th - Meadows on Shawnee

Tee times for tonight, June 30th, at 5:45 at Meadows in Bridgman.

John is still out of time, and I’ll be at a Park Board meeting so I’ll miss this Monday.

Call me if you have questions.

Not much response regarding the night of choice for playing, so for now it stays Monday.

June 9th Outing at Berrien Hills Golf Club

Monday evening on the 9th of June, we tee off at 6 p.m. at the Berrien Hills Golf Club. This is a beautiful course that runs along the St. Joseph River across from the hospital in St. Joe. It was private for many years, and is now open to the public. You do not want to miss this outing. Costs for nine holes include greens fees of $17 and cart fee of $11 for a total of $28. There are coupons in the Superbook for buy one, get one, which knocks your cost down to $19.50, so don't forgot to team up with someone with a coupon.

See you on the links!

Outing Tonight at Pebblewood

Tee times for tonight, June 2nd, are 6:00 and 6:08 at Pebblewood in Bridgman. Hey, didn't we do this just a few weeks ago? Yes, but since John and I are playing in the Young Life outing today at Chikaming Country Club, we'll barely be able to get there by six, so we picked the closest course. I'll be out there as well as John, so come on out and join us for nine, as we finish our twenty-seven!

Anyone interested in playing Memorial Day?

Contact Brad Williamson if you are interested in playing on Memorial Day. If there is sufficient interest, we'll meet for breakfast and then go flog our way through 9 or 18. Email Brad or call him if you want to commit.

Great Time Had By All

Everyone out Monday enjoyed the afternoon at Brookwood. If you missed it, get in on next week's adventure at Pebblewood. Let Brad know if you are going.

Opening Day! No kidding!

Opening Day is here at last! We will tee off on the front nine at Brookwood at 5:36 so don't say you haven't been told. Emails will follow to all members. John Moline, er, the Grand Poo-bah will be on hand to lead off the festivities, er, the great little white ball hunt. See you in the rough!

Time to flog the rough for some new members!

Fellow floggers, it is now May 1st, and the response to this years league has been...well...underwhelming. Everyone we talk to says they are interested, but nobody is going to the effort of signing up. That means two things. One, there are dozens of folks who want to play, but won't get notified because they aren't signing up, and two, it's up to us, the existing members, to make a few phone calls and drag those future members into the registration page.

Send out a few emails, make a few phone calls, threaten a few folks with your nine iron, and we should get things moving right along. So get going, and make it happen, so this year's league can be enjoyed by everyone.

Opening Day, One More Time...

Now the weather isn't looking so hot for Monday the 28th. If we have enough hardy souls, we may try it anyway. If not, then opening day will be May 2nd. We'll let you know.

Opening Day, absolutely, finally, maybe, well...

Well, fellow floggers, it could be this Monday. We may not know for sure until Sunday, but if we have enough players, we'll be out there Monday, the 28th. It all depends on registrations.

Some folks have been confused over the play times. We've updated the FAQ to clarify, but this should help.

Day: Mondays

Meeting Time: In Bridgman/Sawyer area to caravan/carpool to the course. 5:00

Tee Time: Between 5:30 and 6:00 depending on location and schedule.

Opening Day?

Well, it's April 21st, and we still don't have our act together. Delays in getting the word out to everyone have resulted in a slow start, so we are still gathering members and momentum. Consequently, no golf today.

Try to contain your emotion.

As those registrations keep rolling in, we may actually be able to put together a foursome next week, so if we can, then the 28th will be the new opening day.

Encourage your friends to sign up, and let's get out there as soon as we can!

Welcome to the Southwest Michigan Floggers

The 2008 golfing season is just around the corner, and preparations are underway for the first outing of the SWM Floggers. If you enjoy golfing, being outdoors, and the conversation and camaraderie that goes with it, then we may well be your league. If enjoying a beautiful afternoon, a decent cigar, and the company of your friends is more important than your handicap, you've come to the right place. At the Fraternal League of Ordinary Golfers, we are, in fact, a collection of ordinary golfers. It's not that the score doesn't matter, it's a question of mind over matter - if you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

So, if you've wanted to be a part of a league, but couldn't commit to being at each and every outing, and didn't appreciate watching your ranking drop accordingly, this is the place for you. We appreciate a finely struck ball as much as the next guy, but since it doesn't happen often, we don't keep track of season standings. You are welcome to keep score, but you start pressing for a comparison with other League members, you're liable to find yourself on the driving range shagging balls out by the 150 yard marker. Say, is that RANGE stamped backward on your forehead?

So, if this is for you, sign up using the Registration page, and join us every Monday for at least nine at one of the area courses.

See you out there!
